That simple. For two reasons: I already have these machines, and they offer an LCD display resolution hard to match (1600x1200) which is very useful for so many things. (as long as my eyes hold out :-)

Truth be told, the WinXP has served me well for many many years, and the only reason I am looking to move off it is Microsoft closed the door. Were it not for that I would continue to use it for many more years. It does the job just fine.Viking Starhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11269939254829503157noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8535660355757508633.post-79374313584426441862014-04-27T15:02:56.679-07:002014-04-27T15:02:56.679-07:00Why not consider Apple? There IS 'Proprietary' (Eval word in some Linux circles it seems) that would solve this, but support for that driver ended with Xserver 1.5...

So, my choices are: Stay with winXP, install say Ubuntu 8.04 (what - 3 LTS releases ago), or - - - go to Win-7. Or, dual boot a machine for CAD work. . .

It did let me install Suse, which I kind of like (someone had reported they got KiCAD working just fine under Suse). So, perhaps I will try the dual-boot approach for a while. Or more likely, keep one machine for CAD work, and another for all else.

Oh Bother... But thanks for the hint, wish it had worked. (Of course, I could also drop a Boat-Buck on a nice new machine :-)Viking Starhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11269939254829503157noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8535660355757508633.post-18709144345297144222014-04-18T15:00:55.533-07:002014-04-18T15:00:55.533-07:00Al,

Have you tried going to the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and in the device section setting EXAPixmaps to false?Tatehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15429110260019237736noreply@blogger.com
